So this week, I saw a rather dismal (on my standards) two movies this week. Those two movies were Savages (saw it on Wednesday) and To Rome With Love (saw it today). Of the two movies, both had their positives, and both had their negatives. As far as which one I enjoyed more, it's a toss-up, with To Rome With Love edging out Savages. However, having said that, both movies are completely different genres. It's like asking who's better. Kobe Bryant or Tom Brady. Both completely different sports (aka genres).
I'll start off with Savages. The movie started off slowly in the first 10 to 15 minutes, with Blake Lively setting up the movie (via narration). Normally I'm ok with a movie starting off slowly, but I'm not a fan of Lively (carried over from Green Lantern), and well in my opinion she was the weakest part of this film as well. The actor that shines the most in this film is Benicio Del Toro. The film centers around two best friends, Chon and Ben (played by Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson respectively), whom their girlfriend (yes you read that correctly, their girlfriend, meaning they all live together and have the same girlfriend, played by Blake Lively) is kidnapped by a Mexican Baja Group, led by Selma Hayek (she does play a rather convincing villain in this film), and thus the premise of the film is born.
I won't go into much more detail with the film, but if you don't mind the drug references (the film is centered on it, and you like action type movies, then I'd recommend this movie.
As for the other film, To Rome With Love, the movie is similar to Midnight In Paris (a movie by Woody Allen, as this one was), as it centers on happenings within Rome. I found this movie like I said to be more enjoyable than Savages (not by much). The film centers around several different couples as they are going through various stages of their relationships. There was a newlywed couple, a couple that recently met (in Rome), and will be getting married soon, a retired age couple (parents of the soon to be bride), and more.
If you liked Midnight In Paris, or like films that showcase cities, then this film is right up your alley, and I'd also recommend this movie.
Lastly, my win. Last Monday (as I mentioned on here, or at least I think I did), I won a Queen Size Mattress set. I should be receiving it either next week, or the week after. Well two days ago, I won an iPad3 or whatever the latest iPad is. I just thought I'd share.
