That about sums up my week. I saw one movie on Monday (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter), and I saw three yesterday on Independence Day. Those three in order were (People Like Us, Ted, and The Amazing Spider-Man). Aside from the three movies on Independence Day, we ate at Red Lobster after seeing Ted, and got done eating 40 minutes before Spider-Man started.
Having said all that, you'd think the holiday was a good yesterday considering I was with family, and we saw all those right? The answer would be wrong. My father (whom I've mentioned before in my older blog entries) put a hamper on everything with complaining (when it wasn't warranted), and bashing my brother and I, while he was walking with my younger brother. What I'm left with after last night, is looking to do something for upcoming holidays apart from my father. The trouble with that, is I have no job, so I'm essentially stuck right now.
As far as the movies go, I won't go into long detail on any of them really, but I will go from my favorite of the 4 seen this week to my least favorite. People Like Us took the top spot for me for a variety of reasons. The cast had really good chemistry, and was believable, and had a story that got better and better as the movie progressed. It was one of the better feel good movies of the summer, and that's all I'll say about that. Next up was Ted. This one is a must for any fan of Family Guy, or anybody else that likes comedies similar to The Hangover. This movie had non-stop laughter (from opening to start), and really came as no surprise as to why it broke The Hangover's record for biggest R rated comedy opening.
Coming in at number 3 was The Amazing Spider-Man. This movie would have been higher up on the list, if I didn't find myself picking apart the differences from this version, and the version 10 years ago with Tobey McGuire's Spider-Man. In my opinion, another origin story was rather unnecessary, and took away from my overall enjoyment of the film. The lizard man (villain) in the film could have been done a whole lot better. It's almost as if the studio blew their budget on the rest of the film (the visuals in the film were top notch, aside from the Lizard), and we were left with a half completed Lizard.
Last, but not least was a rather disappointing new and original take on Vampire movies in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. This movie would have been better, if they didn't go the completely absurd fictional routine as having a former President being a vampire hunter, but instead having a secret society of hunters set during the same time frame. Two big things that will leave Vampire movie fans disappointed are the vampire's ability to be in direct sunlight, and being able to be killed with silver. That's all I'll say with regards with this movie.
