Last Friday, I did what I normally do on Friday's (as you can tell if you read my blog), and that is to see more movies. I saw another 3, as you can tell from this blog's entry. Those three movies were: The Words, Branded, and The Cold Light of Day.
Out of the three movies, I would recommend The Words, and then The Cold Light of Day, if you are looking to see a thriller/suspense movie. Admittedly, The Cold Light of Day does take a while to find it's rhythm, but once it does, it gets good. The Words on the other hand, in my opinion didn't suffer from that, and is the first in a long line of movies between now and the end of the year that could get nominated for awards come the Academy Awards next year. Jeremy Irons in the film delivers a solid performance, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him nominated for Best Supporting Actor. I was right last year, regarding Nick Nolte getting nominated in Warrior, so who knows, maybe I'll get another one right.
Branded on the other hand, was different to say the least. I knew that beforehand going in, but I didn't realize it would be different and bad, as it did when the film started using CGI. The CGI in the film looked as if it was stuck in the early 90's, and as a result the film suffered. The film centered around advertising and corporate brands, and was watchable until, the main character in the film started seeing things that others couldn't see, and hence the CGI.
After seeing the three movies, it brings my official count of movies for the Summer to 37. I didn't blog on the movie Lawless, but I did see that, which could also be a sleeper in terms of nominations come awards season.
